ICYMI… Hugo Chavez in hospital ‘for kidney failure’

Hugo Chavez in hospital ‘for kidney failure’

The Telegraph

September 29, 2011

The leftist, staunchly anti-US stalwart Chavez went into the Military Hospital in Caracas on Tuesday morning, the report on the newspaper’s website said, citing anonymous sources with knowledge of the case.

“He was in fairly serious overall condition,” a source told the Miami-based Spanish-language daily. “When he arrived, he was in quite serious shape and that is why he was brought in for emergency care.”

Venezuela’s Information Minister Andres Izarra appeared to deny the report in a posting on the micro-blogging website Twitter.

“Those who should be admitted are the journalists of the Nuevo Herald, except into a madhouse (instead of a hospital),” Izarra tweeted, without providing further details.

On Sunday, Chavez sought to assure Venezuelans he was healthy, telling them that cancer-fighting chemotherapy treatment has not left him with any debilitating side effects.

No banco, recolheram US$ 5 milhões em espécie.

Venezuela Expropriates Largest Domestic Ferry Company

Chávez is at it again! The Venezuelan president ordered Monday the expropriation of Conferry, the largest ferry company in the country. Conferry provides transportation from the mainland to Margarita Island, a popular tourist attraction.

Conferry’s expropriation coincided with a new report from Fedecámaras, Venezuela’s  equivalent of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. In 2011 alone, Venezuela has expropriated 402 companies, according to Fedecámaras.

This is not the first time that the Chávez government interferes with Conferry’s operations. The company had been previously fined by the state-run consumer protection agency for alleged poor service.

This recent acquisition by the Chávez government is the latest entry in a long list of assets seized by the state. Business leaders say Chávez’s nationalizations are ruining the economy.
